If you are an avid Chicago Twitter user, I would be surprised if you haven’t seen the constant conversations around the upcoming social media scavenger hunt of the year – @FijiHunt. For those of you hiding under a rock, here’s the 411. There will be up to 50 teams comprised of two players each who are social media enthusiasts. The idea, crafted from @leyla_a, is to bring together Chicago’s savvy social media crowd and engage in friendly competition.
At the beginning of the hunt each team will receive a list of places they need to check-in, tweet and update to Facebook status. Teams will be judged based on their social media activity with the ability to receive bonus points. The best way to get bonus points it to write a tip on Foursquare at the check-in destination. Many Foursquare users would agree, tips are one of the main reasons for usage of the application. Plus, who doesn’t love a good tip at their favorite Chicago hot-spot? I think this will be beneficial to the sponsors even after the scavenger hunt is over since it can be viewed every time someone checks-in. Add Fiji Hunt as a friend on Foursquare to receive updates and tips around Chicago during and after the event.
The hunt a great idea for Fiji to use their on-premise support from retailers and create brand awareness in the Chicagoland area. Not only is Fiji benefiting from the creative idea, but small businesses are quickly jumping on board for the exposure as well. Many employees are participants in the scavenger hunt, others are hosting a “check-in” spot on the map and some are even sponsoring teams to be represented. It is a great idea to bring the community together and the competition is on! Teams are already starting to sike each other out leading up to the day of the event – no kidding, check out #FijiHunt search on Twitter, it’s brutal (in a funny way)!
Like every competition, there will be winners, and they will not be going home disappointed. Winners of the challenge will receive an iPad and a years worth of Fiji water, plus much more.
Mark your calendars, August 14, will be a day not to forget in the virtual/real world. I will be volunteering the day of the event, meaning I will not be participating. If you are one of the ones contemplating whether or not to enter, I’m telling you first hand, you don’t want to miss out on this epic adventure. Seriously, what are you waiting for? The cost is cheap, the winning prizes are to die for, and you are competing against all your social media companions. Complete the application form now and more importantly, good luck!
